Asura, tale of the vanquished

Asura is a book with everything. War, love, romance, betrayal and of course mythology. The author has presented the idea of devas and asura with a very different perspective, with no preconceived notion of the latter being evil. The way the author portrays the journey of Ravana from the depths of poverty to the king of the entire India and then the epic battle with Rama. The story goes at a smooth pace, the details not at all slowing its pace. It’s a must read for those who have the knowledge about the epic Ramayana to view it from a different viewpoint and for those who don’t have any idea about the same.

A peek in the Jungle...

I sat on my desk,
looking out of the window.
I saw in front of me a jungle,
the jungle of the city.
The muddy patches were replaced by
well built roads.
The buildings replaced the trees.
The fauna was replaced by
automobiles and humans.

I don't know if it is for the good or the bad.
But for now, the jungle of the city,
is where we delve.

Desire

“Desire is the source of all suffering.” ~ Mahatma Buddha
The above line, as I am sure all of us know, is said by a great spiritual leader. Yet, I personally, find this line conflicting. Desires do make us suffer. In the pursuit of our ambitions we make sacrifices, some big, some small, which cause us pain and with desire comes expectations don’t come true we despair. So that kind of rule’s out desire as a bad thing for if we don’t have any desire we won’t have any expectations which will harm us. But isn't this living, not living just existing. If we don’t desire, if we don’t dream of goals and don’t even try to achieve it just because of the fear of failing, wouldn't that mean we are virtually dead.
Although we shouldn't abandon our goals, there should be a limit to how far we should go in order to have it. The desire should not turn into an unhealthy obsession. In order to have something we want, we shouldn't harm others. And no matter what we shouldn’t be disappointed if we fail. This is what, I think, Mahatma Buddha wanted to convey.

Is it really about saving the Earth?

These days everybody seems to be obsessed with the idea of saving the Earth. But there are a few people who disagree, who deny that the Earth needs saving. And I agree with them. The Earth doesn't needs saving from us, simply because we aren't strong enough to destroy the Earth and even if we try the Earth will simply erase our existence. Not because it isn't a caring mother but because if we destroy the Earth it will result in the destruction of many other species that live with us. Thus to save its other children it will be forced to destroy us.
So it's not earth who needs saving from our deeds, its we who need saving, for its our existence that is at stake.

Why do we write?

Almost everyone has a deep down desire to write. No matter if it gets published or not, we just want to write, to create a world of our own. But why? Because there are so many things around us that we like, so many things we don't like, so many things we want to change and so many things we want to stay as the are. But, above all we want is to express these desires without any boundaries, without any laws stopping us.
That's why we write...or at least that's why I do....
